Doctor appointment

Today we had AK's five hour doctor appointment with the Spina Bifida Clinic.  We got there at 12.  She had an ultrasound and x-ray. Then we waited for over an hour to go back to see the doctors.  We met a nice couple from Jackson, MS who had a two year old daughter from China.  They were there about a week later than us.  Talking with them helped make the wait go fast.

AK now weighs 22 lb.  She is starting to pack on the weight.  We saw the orthopedic doctor first.  He said her x-ray looked fine.  No hip dysplasia or scoliosis which are common for people with Spina Bifida.  Then we met with neurologist.  He looked at her pictures and her scar and felt certain that she does not have Spina Bifida.  There is a concern with a sacral tumor that it is Spina Bifida, but he did not feel a MRI was necessary.  He felt she only had a sacral tumor nothing related to the nervous system.  He did refer us to a general surgeon who would be able to tell us more about a child that has had a sacral tumor.  So we have an appointment in July with this doctor.

This was great news and seeing how well AK is doing, this is what we were hoping for.

We met with the rehab doctor next, but it seemed that now we did not need the Spina Bifida clinic. Then the urologist came in.  This is the doctor I really wanted to talk to since AK's file said she had cysts.  He confirmed that she has a large mass in her lower abdomen.  He was not exactly sure of the location, but he could not rule out that it may be attached to the spinal column.  He was going to talk to the neurologist based on the ultrasound.  He felt like we would need a MRI.  He did want to see us again in six months, but also recommended us seeing the surgeon to get his opinion.

This news brought back the reality of the unknown.  We went from a high to a low.  I am still very thankful that it seems she does not have mild or severe Spina Bifida.  However, I was hoping for answers and it seems we will have to wait.

Please pray for healing.  I know God can heal AK, but if not I pray for answers and peace on the paths we should take to help her.
