January 2014

No sense in continue to apologize for not posting regularly.  Although it is easy and I enjoy doing it, it takes time to download pictures, edit pictures, and type a post.  Really the picture side is the time consuming part.

Update on AK blood work - It came back negative.  The doctor wants to wait till March to see if her nose drainage continues.  He is hoping it may just be related to a cold.

Here is an update on what went on in January since my last post.  We celebrated Chinese New Year.  Kevin and Anna Kate went to Boutwell for Chinese New Year celebration.  It was fun getting her all dressed up in her Chinese outfit.  They had a great time trying the food and enjoying the festivities.  AK made some friends.  That same day, we took the kids to the circus for AK's birthday.  I cannot remember the last time I went to the circus.  We really enjoyed it.  AK did take a short nap, but she had not had a nap since she had also gone to the Chinese New Year event.

This has also been one of the coldest and snowiest winters I have seen in a long time.  The snow of January28th was something I hope to never endure again.  We were expecting a dusting, but got a few inches.  My work closed at 10:30 am, so I left to go get the kids from daycare.  I knew daycare would be calling soon.  Daycare called before I got out of the parking deck that they were closing at 11:30.  I contacted Kevin to tell him he needed to head home.  At 11:30 I had accomplished getting out of the parking deck and making it one block down the road.  This was not looking good.  To make a long story short, it took me 3 hours to get to daycare.  This is normally a 15-25 minute trip.  Although I was glad to have my kids, I really did not know what we were going to do.  I knew I could not go up Chalkville Mtn Rd, so I headed down Hwy 11.  While sitting in traffic with screaming kids, I learned that Kevin made it home.  So I was going to go the same way up Hwy 75.  Once I got on I459, I could not go 59S because a semi truck had wrecked on the ramp.  So I went 59N to turn around to go 59S.  I got about half way up Hwy 75 when it became a parking lot of abandoned cars.  I could not get around them.  So I was headed back.  Kevin told me to go to Walmart in Roebuck and wait on him.  I was hungry and needed a bathroom.  Unfortunately, Walmart would not allow us in.  While waiting in the parking lot, our friends contacted Kevin to see if we were okay.  We were not.  They invited us to their h
ouse.  I did not think I would be able to get all they way to their house by car, but knew I could get within a mile or so.  It was the best option.  At 5:30pm, I arrived at our friend's house.  I love my all wheel drive SUV that got me all the way to their house.  I never dreamed 7 hours after leaving work, I would not be home, but at a friend's house.  Kevin was not able to drive to their house.  He was able to get two rides with strangers that got him to their neighborhood.  Finally, we were all together.  We stayed with our friends two nights before making it home.  I am so thankful for their phone call and opening their home to our family.  Many THANKS!

Once home, we were able to have some fun in the snow.  Although I had thought this would be our only snow, we got more in February.
