It is taking me much longer these days to take care of items as they come up. I have so many things going on these days.
Back in January, we received a packet from AGAPE of items we need to update. Later, we received notification from CCAI that our immigration forms were going to expire in July. From my first communications with both agencies, it seemed that we did not have to do anything for CCAI/China, but we would for AGAPE/AL. Last month, I finally got around to talking to AGAPE to get an understanding as to why we were having to update all our paperwork since China did not need anything. I learned that they thought we were updating our China paperwork. Since we are going to let our immigration paperwork expire, then there is nothing we have to do at this point. Hooray. I can check that off my list.
I know you may wonder what it means by letting our China immigration paperwork expire. The documents we worked for 9 months on to compile our dossier and to get approval for immigration is only good for 15 months. At this time, we could file a free extension which would give us another 15 months. Since we feel that we are more than 15 months out from receiving a referral, it really is pointless to go through this paperwork exercise. All our paperwork will need to be updated along with immigration approval prior to us being able to accept a referral. CCAI will notify us 6 months or more in advance of when they anticipate our referral happening in order for us to do the paperwork exercise at that time. If we choose to change to a special needs adoption which has a shorter wait time, then we would need to start updating the paperwork at the time of that decision.
I hope this clarifies that we are still pursuing the adoption of our daughter. We are only avoiding doing pointless paperwork.
